Yoga Akasha :: Your space in the heart of the community

Sannyasin Kriya

Sannyasin Kriya (Kim Leys) started yoga while pregnant with her first child. The realisation of the power of yoga as a social tool and the subsequent development of the heart centre; had a profound effect.  Adult Education led to teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga and the quest to develop the heart energy led to the London Satyananda Centre where Kriya met her teacher Swami Vedantananda Saraswati.  Kriya taught in London for two years before moving to Sussex in 1996.  Two courses followed directing her teaching path: BWY module 'Teaching Yoga to Children' and the 'Satyananda Integration Teacher Training Course'. The latter led to India, the first meeting with Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati and a first hand introduction to Bhakti Yoga.

In 2006 Swami Niranjananda Saraswati of the Bihar School of Yoga initiated Kriya into Jignasu Sannyasin.

In 2008 Kriya joined three colleagues and realised a long term aim of founding YOGA AKASHA.

Kriya teaches yoga in East Grinstead and Forest Row to adults, young people and children from aged seven.

In Satyananda Yoga the emphasis is towards a gentle meditative approach and the spiritual aspect of Yoga, in the tradition of the Bihar School of Yoga. This tradition builds on ancient practices by progressively adding layers, thereby deepening and enhancing the basic practices. The diversity of approach makes this tradition accessible to all students, from beginners to more advanced practitioners. Each class explores postures (asanas), breath work (pranayama) and relaxation (yoga nidra) leading towards meditation.  Yoga practices developed by the Bihar School of Yoga aim to harmonise all levels of human life and experience through practical means.

Kriya teaches at Yoga Akasha on Wednesday Mornings :

09.30 - 11.00 - Mixed Ability

11.15 - 12.30 - Beginners

12.45 - 13.45 - Relaxation - Yoga Nidra
