I began practicing Yoga in 1991 with Raffi in East Grinstead and teaching locally in 1999. 2002 saw the start of yearly Yoga holidays in Greece, 2012 will be my first in Turkey. I teach Hatha Yoga, although with my Ashtanga/Atma Vikasa/ Kundalini background I teach a more physically challenging class than some types of Hatha yoga. I return to India as often as possible to study with my teachers, Venkatesha and Hema, who founded the Atma Vikasa school of yoga, with whom I found a new depth to my own practice, now focusing more on Yogic philosophy and Meditation. My desire to access the stillness within led me to live in a Buddhist community in Brighton for 8 months and continue to attend classes, courses and retreats there regularly. I enjoy the harmony and balance that Yoga brings to my daily life and believe Yoga can help us all get closer to true contentment and inner peace. I love teaching all abilities, to me it's not where you are in a posture that counts, what's important is how you are - inside, while in the posture. To be with your breath, watch your mind, let go of tension, be in the moment, come back to the constant that is the breath. To find contentment, to be at peace, to draw closer to the stillness. That, to me is what matters. That is why I practice Yoga, that is what I want to share with you. I have 3 beautiful children and 4 gorgeous grandchildren, each a precious gift, from whom I learn much. Atma Vikasa begins with classical sun salutations to warm the whole body followed by a balanced sequence of standing postures, back bends, seated forward bends and twists, closing with a shoulder stand sequence, headstand and relaxation. This is a strong class as postures are held for longer than some practices and it includes some challenging postures, although modifications are always available so it is suitable for a fairly wide range of abilities. Benefits include increased flexibility and muscle tone, improved concentration and balance plus a general sense of well being and peace of mind.
