I have been teaching Pilates for ten years now and I run classes for clients from 8 - 80 years old. I originally trained for a diploma with the Pilates Institute in London and teach not only class mat work but also remedial Pilates, Pilates in pregnancy, Pilates for back care , Pilates for dancers and much more. My interest in Pilates originated from my early background many years ago as a classically trained dancer. After raising my two children I was looking for a new challenge and thought Pilates would be a “possibility”. Little did I realise that this “possibility” would grow and grow as I learnt more and more. Despite exercising since I was very young, introducing Pilates into my life has certainly changed my whole attitude and understanding of my own body and how it works and it has also changed my shape! My priority is enjoyment in every class. No matter what body, what background, what age and what ability my aim is for all of us, including me, to feel better in mind and body at the end of every session. Pilates is a wonderful discipline that helps every individual, with their own individual body to understand how to use that body to the very best of its ability, just as it was designed to be used. Pilates is not an “end” product but a discipline through exercise and correct breathing technique that will change your posture, your strength, your mobility and give you greater ability for all the other activities in life you pursue whether that be running a marathon or simply running for a bus, playing a sport or enjoying a walk and not least of all to help to ease the tensions from the all too common stresses of modern living. Time for you and your body for one whole hour at least. My background before marriage, home and children, ( I have a grown up son and daughter, two cats and a large chocolate Labrador ) began with dancing lessons at the age of two which led many years later to being a professional dancer at the London Palladium before progressing to acting roles on television and film and in many musicals in the West End. Some of you of a “certain age” may remember me from those days. However I am now thrilled to be part of the dedicated and excellent team at Akasha and look forward to welcoming you to my classes. Take time for yourself…………….. you matter. |
